My work is mainly landscape based concentrating on the fells around my home and other areas recently visited. Colour is important to me, the mountains can change from one second to the next and these fleeting changes often lift the whole landscape, and that of the painting in return. Sometimes it is clear that the abstract qualities of the paint are as relevant as the representation of the image. I like to keep an element of experimentation in my work to keep the paintings fresh and not get too worried about any one particular component or process. My paintings are constantly changing and this is important in my work. The figures and animals that often occur in my painting, are very much a part of the landscape around our home. Sometimes they are seemingly insignificant and at other times can not be missed. They are a part of the whole painting and are worked on at the same time as the other features.
